Why is Hindi Diwas celebrated on 14 September? On 14 September 1949 the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language of the Union (Article 343). The day has been observed as Hindi Diwas since 1953.
What is the difference between Hindi Diwas and World Hindi Day? Hindi Diwas (14 September) marks Hindi's adoption as an official language. World Hindi Day (10 January) celebrates Hindi around the world; it has been observed since 2006 in memory of the first World Hindi Conference, held in Nagpur in 1975.
